O'Brien's [Ireland] Notes on Reserve Speciale Viognier

O'Brien's is Irelands largest family owned drinks retailer, with 27 stores nationwide. We thank them for their support of our delightful Reserve Speciale Viognier, soon to be available in select markets across the USA. From their online catalog, they say "Easily the best Southern French Languedoc we have ever tasted, the Speciale Reserve actually reminded us of the great, expensive wines of Condrieu. Aromatic peach and apricot aromas fill the glass with that same peachy fruit on the palate, rounded off with wild honey. World Class Viognier".

Wine Spectator Best Value Wineries From France 2007

You probably knew that we make some of the most critically acclaimed, sought after, limited production, wines in the south of France. You may not have been aware of the incredible quality of our full range of wines. Witness the 2007 wrap-up of the Spectator's highest rated under $30 wines from France, where you may be surprised by just how many incredible value wines we produce. Our great value wines start with our Reserve Speciale varietal wines (Chardonnay, Viognier, Sauvignon Blanc, Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot and Pinot Noir) and continue with our AOC offerings from Corbieres and Minervois, our Pic Saint Loup & Tautavel wines under our Grand Terroirs label, and extend into our outstanding estate wines.

Gerard Bertrand wine feature in Beijing, China.

Just thought you would like to see that we are the featured wine at the Vineyard Cafe in Beijing, China through our excellent representatives in China, East Meets West Fine Wines, an importer/distributor with offices in Shanghai, Beijing and Shenzhen

I also loved the directions posted by the Vineyard Cafe on their website:
"Directions to Vineyard Cafe by Car, Bike or Foot: Head to Yong He Gong Qiao (the second ring road bridge next to the Lama Temple) and go south. After 30 metres, at the first hutong (street) you reach, turn right. The street entrance currently has barriers with pictures of parks on either side of it - see photo on right. Vineyard Cafe is approximately 150 metres down the street on your right hand side. Unfortunately, the street is one way going east between 7am and 10pm so you will need to jump out the taxi at the end and walk down."

A robust red, with good definition to the berry, cherry and plum flavors. There's also plenty of spicy notes, with mineral and chocolate on the finish. Well-balanced and nicely structured. Drink now through 2010. 6,000 cases made.

Welcome to the Gerard Bertrand Blog!

Thanks for taking me up on my invitation to visit this blog. If you are here to view the USA presentation, please be advised that it takes a few moments to load. When you click on the 'open application' tab, it will take you to the Issuu web page where the document is stored. Again, it will take a moment or two to load, but after it does, it is quite easy to turn the pages on the document. Thank you for taking the time to find out a little more about Gerard Bertrand, the wines, and Gerard Bertrand, the man. Please call or email me with any questions you may have.

Best Regards,
Matt

Wonderful personal story about travel along the Canal du Midi (with a nice Gerard Bertrand mention too!)

Quite an enjoyable story about travel along the Canal du Midi, the beauty, the history, and of course, the food and wine from the south of France. A couple of quick excerpts and link to the story at the Register Guard website:

There are more than 2,000 miles of canals in Europe. One of the most beautiful is the Canal du Midi in southern France that gently winds a path between historic hilltop towns, quaint villages and the vineyards of the Languedoc region - vineyards, vineyards and more vineyards.

All of us came to absorb the beauty and history of this part of France, to experience the cuisine and, of course, to sample as much wine as humanly possible. We batted a thousand.

Today, a good deal of wine from this region is still sold in bulk or is very ordinary, but that still leaves a huge amount of quality wines finding their way to the United States and your favorite wine retailer. The region was put on the world stage in 2005 when Wine Spectator magazine gave high marks to the wines of Gerard Bertrand, a man who continues to tout the region for its quality and value.
